How to care for a lace wig

Lace Wigs 101

The most versatile and easy-to-maintain lace wig is the Indian Remy Lace Wig, Yaky Straight. This hair type and texture resembles Permed African American hair and looks best on African Americans or those of African descent. It doesn’t look like shiny doll hair and it best compliments the many skin tones and hair textures of African Americans or those of African descent.

It doesn’t require high maintenance and looks soft and silky smooth.  You should wash your lace wig every 2 weeks with Redken Shampoo and Conditioner to maintain your wigs luster. When sleeping in your wig, always wear it in two braids or a high ponytail. Never sleep on damp or wet hair as it will tangle.  Treat your lace wig as if it was your own hair, with care and delicacy.  Though it is a lace wig and has a great hair quality, neglecting the care of your lace wig has is its consequences.  When you’re not wearing your lace wig, place it on a mannequin head.  This will increase the longevity of your lace wig.  Lace wigs can last for up to 3 years with proper care.  Start taking care of your lace wig from day one to maintain the life and luster of your wig.

Curly and wavy lace wigs require more maintenance and care.  Because they are naturally wavy or curly; or even processed to be curly or wavy, they’re wave or curl pattern has been formed to maintain its style.  It’s easy to tangle curly or wavy hair and requires finger combing or combing with a wide tooth comb to maintain its luster and beauty.  If you are a beginner at wearing lace wigs, purchase a natural straight, yaky or silky smooth lace wig.  These types will still create waves once wet.  Work your way up to mastering the care of your lace wig before buying one with no knowledge of how to properly care for it.  You will be disappointed to not have your wig last for the amount of time it could last without proper care.

If curly and wavy wigs are exactly what you want and you want to try one the first time, try buying a synthetic grade fiber lace wig.  Your investment is much less and you can maintain your curls or waves for the life of the wig.

Never sleep on wet or damp hair.  This will cause tangling of the hair.  If you must sleep in your wig, sleep with it in 2 braids, one on each side, or in a high ponytail.

Care for your lace wig as if it were your own natural hair.  Be delicate and return with your washings for your wig. This will expand the life of the wig and keep it beautiful and lustrous, the way it was meant to be.
